Slab Volume Measurement System


Overview

Based on the space photographic image measurement technique of CCD solid camera and the laser measurement technology and without changing the original device, the testing slab digital images were transferred into the computer through CCD cameras. The three-dimensional geometry of the testing slab digital images are automatically calculated, surveyed, planned and exported by computer. Finally, the actual weight of the slab is calculated in the purpose of providing accurate planning for rolling products and effectively improving the finished product rate.

Scope

The system is suitable for measurement of long boot cut slab, three-dimensional measurement of steel billet, three-dimensional measurement of slab before furnace.

Flatness Requirements: According to the ferrous metallurgy industry standards YB/T 2012-2014, given the cross-section, camber, flatness, bulging, oblique, shear deformation, dents, wedge-shaped and etc., given the deviation value according to the standard requirements and automatically determining the qualification.

Economic Benefit Analysis

The rate of finished steel is determined by the accuracy of slab weight, while in production process, it is hard to achieve high accuracy for measuring slab weight. In case of market orientation, it is difficult to achieve best design for slab. Therefore, there are objective limitations on improving finished product rate of slab.

To precisely measure the slab before early stage rolling (the absolute error of length and width < 2mm), deducting proportion and oxide as well as other factors, the weight accuracy can be achieved to more than 99.5%. As a result, there are two functions will be achieved: notifying previous procedure for amendment of the slab size, and informing last procedure for the actual slab size. It is not difficult to understand that the use of ‘Slab Volume Measurement System’ could improve the rate of finished slab by 0.5 to 1.5 percent.

For example, a production line with annual output 1 million tons per year, increases 1 percent of finished slab rate, the price for finished slab is $650 per ton and the price for waste slab is $325 per ton, thereby,

($650-$325)*1,000,000*0.01=$3,250,000

As the equation shows, there is $3,250,000 economic benefit for the enterprise.
